Sisli is a cosmopolitan region of Istanbul which is situated to the north of the business and entertainment heart of the city, Taksim, and therefore offers a good alternative for staying in an Istanbul hotel.

 

About Sisli

The area was initially developed as a residential part of the city for the middle-classes, but became more and more developed from the 1920’s onwards as a fashionable place to live. Café’s, restaurants and shops started to appear, as well as many other cultural amenities.

The Hilton was the first Istanbul hotel in this region and was built in the 1950’s, starting a trend for many more to follow as this soon became a desirable place to visit too.

 

Great for Shopping

If you want to choose a hotel in Istanbul which is conveniently located for great shopping, this is the place for you! Europe’s largest shopping mall was opened here in 2005 – Cevahir Shopping Centre. The mall has 280 big name stores as well as 12 cinemas, including an IMAX, bowling, a roller coaster, many places to eat, and more! The shopping centre is directly accessible from the metro too for extra convenience.

A couple of stops up the metro takes you to Levent, which is near to another of Istanbul’s large shopping malls too – Akmerkez in Etiler.

 

Great Location

Being on the metro line makes this a great location for an Istanbul hotel because it’s so easy to get around the rest of Istanbul too. Just two stops down the line is Taksim, for an even better variety of bars, clubs and restaurants. From there you can get onto the funicular and down to the Golden Horn, then across to the historic old city to visit all of the most popular tourist attractions.

There is still plenty in the vicinity to keep you occupied too, and stepping out of your Istanbul hotel here gives you more of a taste of the modern day city as hotels in this part of Istanbul don’t feel quite so touristy!
