Review Istanbul Hotels
Beautifully Restored Mansion Makes Fine Hotel
My fiancé and I were looking for a small and personal Istanbul hotel to stay at while in Turkey making our wedding plans with his parents, and his sister recommended the Hotel Valide Sultan Konagi in the Old City. It was once an old Ottoman mansion, something very commonly found in Istanbul, and it only has seventeen rooms. All of the rooms are very nicely decorated with hardwood floors, Turkish rugs, cable television, free wireless internet and mini bar. I brought my laptop with me since I was working on the wedding plans while there and the wireless connection was totally out of this world.
The hotel is located with the Aya Sofya with the Topkapi Palace and grounds right next door. For traditional guests who are there to see the city itself, it’s a great place to base out of as many of the usual attractions are within walking distance or a short ride away. The nearest tram, which we took to get to the home of my future in-laws, is a ten minute walk from the hotel, making it really convenient for anyone who stays there to get around Istanbul. We had a lovely buffet breakfast on the rooftop café and we enjoyed the scenery as we dined.
This beautiful Istanbul hotel may be small but it is very personable and the staff is extremely helpful. There is no swimming pool or spa facility here which may not thrill some guests, but it was perfect for us. If you are looking for someplace that is quiet and charming, then the Valide Sultan Konagi is where you want to stay.
