Review Istanbul Hotels
Gem Hidden Behind The Blue Mosque
One thing I have noticed about the boutique Istanbul hotels is that many of them started life as 19th or 20th century Ottoman mansions. The Askin hotel is no different and this hotel is marketed as one of Sultanahmet’s best bed and breakfast establishments. I was looking for a small and romantic place to stay with my girlfriend, and this Istanbul hotel was the perfect fit. The hotel was built in 1932 and painstakingly restored inside and out. Each of the rooms is decorated in late Ottoman style and they are all comfortable and clean.
You can see the Blue Mosque from most of the rooms, and the historic site literally is only a few minutes walk away. Many of the other places are also within walking distance and my girlfriend and I enjoyed the luxury of being able to ramble around the Old City without worrying about paying for transportation. The Askin also has its own rooftop terrace where the complimentary breakfast is served to guests and the views are just spectacular from up there. Free high speed wireless internet is available throughout the hotel, but other than that there are few amenities that you would normally find in bigger Istanbul hotels.
There are 22 rooms at the Askin that come in single, twin, double, large double, triple, and Jacuzzi rooms. We stayed in the Jacuzzi room. All of the rooms come with AC, en-suite bathroom, hair dryer, mini bar, telephone, and television and they are all decorated in a bit of an opulent Ottoman style. Depending on which rooms you stay in, you get a nice view of the Marmara Sea and the Blue Mosque. This Istanbul hotel is affordable, quiet, and superbly located and we recommend it highly to anyone who wants to stay there.
